The Bomber County Gateway Trust

The Bomber County Gateway Trust has been formed with the object of designing, procuring, constructing and installing an iconic landmark art installation on the county border of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

The Opening Ceremony Weekend

Due to the popularity of “On Freedom’s Wings” it has been necessary for us to apply for planning permission for a permanent parking area to allow more opening opportunities for visitors.

The planning application is with North Kesteven DC & we are hoping that this will be considered over the next few months but these things take time & it is out of our hands.

We hope to be able to open eventually 3/4 days per week from 10am -3pm but this will be confirmed when planning permission is gained.
In the meantime we will be open for general visiting a couple of days per month & there will be a BLUE BADGE day in July, (the exact date TBC & this will be posted on FB & our website.)

Statement from Charlie White, Bomber County Gateway Trust Chair, on behalf of all Trustees

After a very busy and very exciting few days on site, and on behalf of the entire team of Trustees, I would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and enthusiasm for the Bomber County Gateway installation. We are incredibly proud that so many people’s time, effort and determination has culminated in this most recent and significant achievement; welcoming the plane on site at Norton Disney.

As our team now embarks on the final push towards completion of the project, the excitement of the past week means we have received an enormous amount of enquiries about the project. Thank you to everyone who has got in touch. To help answer the most common enquiries we have produced a series of FAQs, which can be found on our website and Facebook page. We would also like to take this opportunity to update people on the current status of the project:

  • The location remains a construction site. More work is need to make it safe and accessible to the public. We are not yet open to visitors until this is complete. Please do not visit until we officially open. Doing so will jeopardise our progress to completion.

  • We have a very small team of volunteers, all contributing time outside of their own employment. Please be patient with us as we work through an overwhelming amount of enquiries, and please check our FAQs before contacting us with a question; they may provide you an answer.

  • Please visit our Facebook page or website for more information on how you can get involved.

We will continue to update as the project nears completion and the site becomes ready for visitors. Thank you once again for such overwhelming support, understanding and respect. We remain thrilled with the response this amazing sculpture has received.
