1. Who has created ‘On Freedom’s Wings’?
The installation was the idea of a group of friends. Since the original concept, a vast number of people and organisations have contributed to its development and production, all of which has been overseen by the Bomber County Gateway Trust, a registered charity. The team behind the installation are all volunteers and we ask for your respect and patience as they all work hard to complete the project in voluntary hours. Alongside all supporters and donators to the project, particular thanks goes to our sponsors: https://www.bombergatewaytrust.co.uk/sponsors/
2. How is ‘On Freedom’s Wings’ funded?
The installation has been funded entirely by public donations and sponsorship from local business and organisations. To date, we have dedicated this funding to creating and manufacturing the installation itself. Once this process is complete we will need to generate funds to support the development of the site to ensure it is safe and accessible for visitors and that facilities such as car parking are provided, as well as to make sure that we can regularly update our visitor information, through improvements to our website for example.
3. How can I support ‘On Freedom’s Wings’?
There are many ways you can support us. Donations and offers of volunteering support can be made here: https://www.bombergatewaytrust.co.uk/fundraising/ As the project continues to develop, there will be more ways to support and we will update our website at that time.
4. Where is ‘On Freedom’s Wings’ located?
The installation is located in Norton Disney, Lincolnshire. As soon as the site is open to visitors, we will publish full details about how to find us and how to plan your visit.
5. Is the installation of ‘On Freedom’s Wings’ now complete?
No. Whilst we were delighted to witness the installation erected at the beginning of September 2025, there are still some finishing touches to be made, and the site itself now requires construction work to make it accessible, safe and open for the public. We will continue to update our Facebook and website pages about progress.
6. Can I visit the site yet?
No. Until the installation and the site it is on is complete, accessible and fully open, it is not safe for the public to visit. The land the installation is on is a privately owned working farm, and therefore is not an appropriate site to visit until construction work is complete and visitor facilities are in place. Please do not visit before we officially open. We have had some incidences of this which have created congestion and risk to other members of the public, and risk stalling and delaying the project’s completion.
7. When will ‘On Freedom’s Wings’ officially open?
We all continue to work hard to complete the project and open it to the public. We currently anticipate this will be in Autumn 2025. This date is of course dependent upon construction timelines, fundraising efforts and many other factors. We will continue to keep people updated through our Facebook page and website.
8. Will there be a charge to visit ‘On Freedom’s Wings’ when it does open?
Our intention has always been to create a landmark which everyone can enjoy and we remain committed to that ambition. We do envisage that any visitor facilities which require maintenance and upkeep (such as car parking) will attract a small fee to cover these costs.
9. How can I get in touch for more information?
Our email address is bombercountytrust@gmail.com Please respect that all volunteers supporting us are doing so in their spare time, and so patience while we respond to your query is appreciated.
